Course Overview

The EU AI Act 2024 is the most significant regulatory development in artificial intelligence globally. High-risk AI systems require conformity assessments, risk management systems, and ongoing monitoring. General purpose AI models carry transparency obligations. Prohibited AI practices carry fines of up to 7% of global annual revenue. Almost no organisation is ready. Almost no training provider offers a practical instructor-led programme that teaches professionals how to govern AI systems against this regulatory reality. XAIG fills that gap entirely.

Across five instructor-led days, participants build AI governance capability across the complete governance lifecycle: EU AI Act risk tier classification and legal obligations, ISO 42001 AI Management System implementation across all clauses, NIST AI RMF application across all four functions, AI risk assessment methodology, AI supply chain and third-party governance, AI transparency documentation, human oversight architecture, AI incident response, and regulatory audit preparation. Every session uses real AI system case studies from healthcare, financial services, hiring, and law enforcement contexts.

On Day 5, participants design an AI governance framework for a simulated enterprise operating multiple AI systems across risk tiers, including at least one high-risk AI system under the EU AI Act. A senior practitioner assesses framework design, risk assessment quality, and regulatory documentation. XAIG certificate and Practitioner Assessment Report issued together. Aligned with EU AI Act 2024, ISO 42001:2023, NIST AI RMF 1.0, OECD AI Principles, and UK AI Safety Institute frameworks.

Hands-On Learning

Hands-on EU AI Act risk classification exercises, ISO 42001 gap assessment against all clauses, NIST AI RMF playbook development, AI risk register design, transparency statement production, and a supervised AI governance framework design on Day 5.

Mentor-Led Sessions

Mentor-led sessions examining real AI governance failures including algorithmic bias cases, opaque decision-making enforcement actions, EU AI Act enforcement scenario modelling, and how to govern AI suppliers and foundation model providers effectively.

Career-Ready Skills

Design and implement AI management systems aligned to ISO 42001, govern AI risk across EU AI Act risk tiers, and produce the Article 9 documentation that satisfies high-risk AI system regulatory requirements.

Learning Outcomes

Classify AI systems across EU AI Act risk tiers and determine applicable legal obligations for prohibited, high-risk, GPAI, and minimal-risk AI

Implement ISO 42001:2023 AI Management Systems including all clause requirements, AI impact assessments, and continual improvement processes

Apply NIST AI RMF across all four functions to enterprise AI risk management programmes using the AI RMF Playbook

Conduct AI risk assessments using AI-specific risk taxonomy and produce AI risk registers aligned to ISO 31000 adapted for AI context

Produce EU AI Act Article 9 to 13 technical documentation for high-risk AI systems including risk management systems and transparency statements

Design AI governance structures including ethics committees, human oversight mechanisms, incident response, and third-party AI supplier governance

Prerequisites

1

Minimum 2 years in a governance, risk, compliance, data, or technology management role

2

Basic understanding of AI and machine learning systems at a conceptual level. No programming or ML engineering experience required.

3

Familiarity with information governance concepts including data protection, risk management, or compliance framework experience

Detailed Syllabus

Organized by professional domains with comprehensive coverage

Topics Covered:
  • EU AI Act four-tier risk classification: Prohibited AI, High-Risk AI, GPAI models, and Minimal-Risk AI
  • Prohibited AI practices under Article 5: biometric categorisation, social scoring, manipulative AI, and real-time biometric surveillance with limited exceptions
  • High-Risk AI Annex III categories: biometric ID, critical infrastructure, education, employment, essential services, law enforcement, migration, and justice
  • GPAI model obligations under Articles 51 to 56: transparency requirements, copyright training data summary, and systemic risk provisions
  • Enforcement timeline: August 2024 prohibitions, February 2025 GPAI codes, August 2026 high-risk Annex III, and August 2027 full enforcement
Stage 5Final Capstone

XAIG: Xcademia AI Governance Practitioner — Capstone Project

On Day 5, participants design an AI governance framework for a simulated enterprise with three deployed AI systems: a high-risk hiring algorithm, a GPAI-based customer service assistant, and a minimal-risk document classification system. They must classify each system under the EU AI Act, design an ISO 42001-aligned AIMS, produce an Article 9 risk management document for the high-risk system, design a NIST AI RMF playbook, and develop an AI supplier governance policy. The senior practitioner assesses regulatory accuracy, framework quality, and documentation standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this course

No UK training provider currently offers an instructor-led, practitioner-assessed AI governance programme covering EU AI Act, ISO 42001, and NIST AI RMF at implementation depth. What exists is either a 1 to 2 day awareness programme, an MCQ exam (CompTIA SecAI+), or generic AI ethics training. XAIG is the first programme that builds the capability to implement AI governance, not just describe it.
