Course Overview

Data protection is one of the most complex compliance disciplines in the UK and EU market. The GDPR has been in force since 2018 and organisations continue to fail audits, receive enforcement notices, and pay fines. The IAPP CIPP/E is the leading privacy certification but it is a 90-question multiple choice exam that tests legal knowledge recall, not the practical ability to conduct a DPIA, design a Records of Processing Activities framework, or advise a board on cross-border data transfer mechanisms. XPRI builds practitioners who can do the work. Across five instructor-led days, participants build data protection practitioner capability across the complete privacy professional remit: UK GDPR and EU GDPR legal foundations and post-Brexit divergence, lawful basis analysis, data subject rights management, DPIA methodology, international data transfers and the post-Schrems II landscape, privacy by design and default, data breach response and ICO notification, processor and supplier management, and sector-specific requirements including NHS DSPT, financial services, and AI systems processing personal data. On Day 5, participants conduct a complete DPIA for a complex AI-enabled data processing scenario and design a privacy governance structure. A senior practitioner assesses DPIA methodology, legal analysis quality, and governance framework design. XPRI certificate and Practitioner Assessment Report issued. Aligned with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, ICO Accountability Framework, EDPB guidelines, ISO 27701, PECR, NHS DSPT, and DORA data protection requirements.

Hands-On Learning

Hands-on DPIA completion exercises, Records of Processing Activities design, lawful basis analysis for complex scenarios, international transfer mechanism assessment, and a supervised privacy programme design on Day 5.

Mentor-Led Sessions

Career-Ready Skills

Conduct comprehensive DPIAs, advise on lawful basis and data subject rights, govern international data transfers, and design accountable privacy programmes that satisfy ICO and EDPB expectations.

  • UK GDPR territorial scope under Article 3: when UK law applies to non-UK organisations
  • Brexit implications for UK organisations with EEA customers: dual compliance obligations and practical management
Stage 5Final Capstone

XPRI: Xcademia Privacy and Data Protection Practitioner — Capstone Project

On Day 5, participants conduct a full DPIA for a complex scenario involving an AI-powered recruitment screening system processing CV data, criminal record checks, and facial analysis. They must complete the DPIA including necessity and proportionality assessment, risk identification, and mitigation measures, then design a privacy governance structure for the simulated enterprise covering DPO governance, processor management, and breach response. The senior practitioner assesses legal analysis accuracy, DPIA methodology, and governance framework quality.
